Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple is the third of the Six Abodes of Murugan. It is located in the city of Palani; earlier, it was known as Thiruaavinankudi, Dindigul district, 100 kilometres (62 mi) southeast of Coimbatore and northwest of Madurai in the foothills of the Palani Hills, Tamil Nadu, India. Palani Temple is considered synonymous with Panchamritam, a sweet mixture made of five ingredients.


As per Hindu legendary beliefs, Sage Narada visited the celestial court of Shiva at Mount Kailash to present to him a fruit, the gnana-palam. He decided to award it to whichever of his two sons first encircled the world three times. Accepting the challenge, Murugan started his journey around the globe on his mount peacock. However, Ganesha, who surmised that the world was no more than his parents Shiva and Shakti combined, circumambulated them and won the fruit.

1.Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple



The auspicious Dandayuthapani Swamy Temple is the third of the Arupada houses of Lord Murugan. This temple is very famous, as it is about 2,000 years old. It is located in Palani town of Dindigul district, formerly Tiruvinankudi, and is mentioned in the old Sangam literature as Thirumurugaartutpai. It is located in Palani town in Dindigul district, 100 kilometers (62 mi) southeast of Coimbatore and northwest of Madurai, at the foot of the Palani Hills in Tamil Nadu, India. Lord Palani Muruga blesses the devotees in Antikolam as Dandayuthapani. The statue of Moolavar in this thalam is made of Navapashan. Legend has it that this idol was created by Sage Bogar, the chief disciple of Agathiya.

Palani is the name of a hill. Palani is the city with Palani Hill and Thiruvavinankudi Place at the foot of the hill. The reason why this temple is called "Palani" is because Lord Shiva and Parvati called their youngest son, Lord Muruga, "Jnanap Pasam Ni," which was given as "Pazam Ni" and later became Palani.
